The New York Cocktail Co. Negroni is a bottled take on the classic Italian aperitivo. The company simply calls it Our Negroni. It comes from a team of top New York bar pros. Founders Linden Pride, Rodrigo Leme and Malte Barnekow built their careers at award-winning bars. Renato Tonelli, named American Bartender of the Year 2023, created the recipe.
The drink sticks to the classic three parts. Brooklyn Gin brings the botanicals. Mancino vermouth, made by a small family firm in Piedmont, Italy, adds sweet depth. Faccia Brutto, a bitter aperitivo made in Brooklyn, gives the signature bite. So there is no Campari here, just small craft producers from New York and Italy.
In the glass, it tastes clean, bright and bitter. Herbal notes from the gin and vermouth meet the bittersweet edge of the aperitivo. It is spirited, so ice is part of the recipe. The finish is crisp, with a pleasant bitter snap.
Serving it could not be easier. Pour a quarter of the 375ml bottle over a large ice cube in a rocks glass. Add an orange wedge, and you're done. You can also stir it with ice and strain it into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass. One bottle makes about four drinks.
It goes well with charcuterie, olives, aged cheese or a square of dark chocolate. Pour one for a sunset aperitivo, a dinner party or a quiet night in. If you love a Negroni but hate measuring, keep a bottle in the fridge.
