In Section 2 (Reading), Multiple Choice questions appear in two formats:
Both contribute low score weight compared to Fill in the Blanks. The objective here is risk management and protecting your shared 29–30 minute reading timer.
| Feature | Single Answer (MCSA) | Multiple Answers (MCMA) |
|---|---|---|
| Correct Answers | Exactly 1 | Usually 2 (rarely 3) |
| Scoring Formula | +1 for correct, 0 for wrong | +1 for correct, -1 for incorrect (minimum item score: 0) |
| Guessing Allowed? | Yes (zero penalty) | No (unverified guesses wipe out earned points) |
| Max Time Allowed | 90 seconds | 120 seconds |
Because incorrect choices incur a -1 penalty, an unverified second selection will eliminate your correct score:
1 Correct (+1) + 1 Guess Wrong (-1) = 0 points
Do not read the entire passage before seeing the question.
| Trap Type | Trap Mechanism | Defensive Strategy |
|---|---|---|
| The Word-Match Trap | Uses identical phrasing from the passage to state a distorted or unsupported relationship. | Distrust direct copy-paste word strings; verify the actual grammatical subject and verb relationship. |
| The Absolute Qualifier Trap | Uses words like always, completely, never, fully when the passage used cautious academic hedging. | Eliminate choices that introduce absolute claims absent from the original text (e.g., matching often to always). |
| The Real-World Truth Trap | The statement is scientifically or factually true in real life, but the text never mentions it. | Evaluate strictly within the boundary of the passage; unmentioned facts are incorrect answers. |
| The Polarity Reversal Trap | Changes the author’s intended meaning with subtle negative particles or prefixes (e.g., failed to prove vs. proved). | Confirm whether the author affirms or refutes the target finding in context. |
